1-11-11

Reality is slowly setting in. The BCS championship is over. And the Ducks lost. Big pouty face. :-C With my lower lip stuck way out. Sigh.... But they held their own - against the #1 team in the nation - and it came down to a field goal in the last 2 seconds of the game. And I have to say, that TD and 2-point conversion at the end to tie it all up was AWESOME!!! I am still proud to be a Duck!!

These are the shirts we wore for game day - Santa Duck brought Sean and I new BCS Duck shirts! Of course, this picture was taken at D-land, but you get the idea. Oh, and Ethan was in his green "I Love My Ducks" shirt that {unfortunately} is getting too small.

Some friends from our ward were able to go to the game - so jealous! But a text to Sean from them when the game was over said it best: OOOOooooooooo Crap.

Anyway. We had just a small gathering at our house - the oldest Coleman boy and his Dad. Of course, you've gotta have game food - pizza, mozzarella sticks, chips and nacho cheese dip, soda and my game-day cookies! I got the football cookie cutter in my stocking and couldn't wait to try it out! Oh, and I love the Wilton food-dye gels - I added the brown one to my collection and they are totally the way to go to get deep, rich colors.

GO DUCKS!!

Leading the Nation in Push-ups

That's what my new Ducks shirt says. And in case you don't follow college sports, Oregon is currently leading the nation both in football [8-0 so far this season] and in push-ups [the Duck mascot does the same number of push-ups as the current Oregon score each time they score a touch-down. So, with last night's win over USC with a score of 53 to 32, the Duck did over 200 push-ups!]

I got my shirt on my recent trip down to Oregon, along with new shirts for my boys. I couldn't pass up Duck shirts at 3 for $20! Ethan's is along the left and Sean's is the upper right one {which, as you can see in the bottom right picture is actually a very bright yellow}.
And since we're on the subject of Duck football... have you seen the new "Return of the Quack" video?!

Yep, I think it's safe to say that at this house, We LOVE our Ducks!

We are SO not in Kansas {uh, Eugene} anymore!!

So we get the local paper just one day a week now - Sundays. Gotta have the funnies, the ads, some local news and during football season... the sports page! Now, this last Saturday the Oregon football team had their first Pac-10 game of the season vs. Arizona State sundevils. They came from behind for a 42-31 win, making them undefeated so far this season. GREAT news for a Ducks fan. Now, this being our first fall season outside of Oregon, I wasn't quite ready to have to SEARCH the paper for the story of the results!
Nothing on the front page of the paper.... Ok. No biggie. We are in WA state cougar country now.

Nothing on the front page of the Sports section... Say what?! Instead there is a picture and an article about Oregon State's loss to Boise State. Um... What about my Ducks?

Oh! Here they are! Page B7. No picture and just a teeny-tiny article. They're only ranked no. 4 in the Nation. Sigh.... I was missing The Register Guard's usual Sunday spread after a win. Front page of the main section. Front page of the sports section and several accompanying articles analyzing it all to death! Yeah, we are SO not in Eugene anymore.

How 'bout them DUCKS?!

We don't watch much sports in our house (really nice to have a hubby that likes watching Grey's or Ugly Betty as much as I do!) but you can bet that on a Saturday during college football season the Oregon Duck game is on our TV screen! They're about the only football team that we really follow and root for. Last night was the big rival game between the University of Oregon Ducks [cheers and applause] and the Oregon State Beavers [booing and tomato throwing - just kidding!]. This year it was on home turf, so the famous Autzen crowd didn't disappoint as they cheered on the Ducks. We stayed in for the night (once I got home from work, picking up Ethan and a quick trip to the grocery store), donned our Oregon apparel and had our friends Tim, Danae and their little boy, Sam over for the big game! Now, don't get me wrong. We're not seriously anti-Beaver fans. We root for OSU whenever they play any other team (we always root for an Oregon team over another state) but when it comes to the civil war game, we bleed yellow and green!!

GO DUCKS!!

Final score: UO - 37, OSU - 33
Which makes Oregon the Pac-10 Champions and ROSE BOWL bound!! Woot, woot!
[A bit of trivia for the non-Oregonian readers of our blog: Do you know the history of The Duck mascot and why we're the only collegiate team that has an official agreement with Disney for use of the Donald Duck character? Click here to read all the info.]
