So... I have another dilema regarding Ethan's birthday party! If you'll recall, my first concern was with the party theme. I received more comments on that blog post than any other, so thanks for all of your input!! After much debate, I finally decided on the... FIRE TRUCK theme!
This kid is so obsessed with fire trucks, it's not even funny. With living across the street from a fire station, we are quite accustomed to seeing and hearing the fire trucks and ambulances go by. Ethan's ears are so attuned to even just the diesel engine roar of the trucks that when he hears them he immediately stops what he's doing, says "Fire truck!" and runs to the front window to catch a glimpse. Have I mentioned before that he can correctly identify all 3 main emergency vehicles? Fire trucks, ambulances and police cars are all the rage at our house. Perhaps this means we have a future fire fighter or paramedic on our hands?!

Perhaps this means we have a future fire fighter or paramedic on our hands?!Anyway, I digress. My new dilema is when to have the party. Let me explain... The whole idea around having the Fire Truck themed party was 1. Ethan's love for fire trucks and ambulances. and 2. The fact that we live right across the street from the fire station. When we first moved in, the actual fire station had basically been condemned (mold problems, I think). The vehicles were and still are in a large tent structure, with the crew living in portable housing units. The old station was demolished and now the brand, spanking new station is almost complete. It's a beautiful, 2-story, 3-garage building that they've been working on for at least 8 months. So what's the problem? I called the station tour coordinator a couple of weeks ago to set up a tour for Friday April 10th (when we plan on having his party) and even saying that if the new station isn't ready, we would still be happy to just meet the crew and see the trucks. Well, the fire chief won't allow it and says there would still be construction, making it too dangerous. But! Everything is scheduled to be done before April 18th and the crew's move-in date is April 20th.
Here's my question:
Do I...
a. Keep the party scheduled for April 10th and tour a different station, then just Sean, Ethan and I tour the new station later? I'm already taking a vacation day for the 10th.
b. Keep the party scheduled for April 10th and choose a different theme all together?
c. Post-pone the party for later in the month so we can keep the theme and tour the brand, spanking new fire station? Hopefully they'd let us do it on the 24th, put my contact person hasn't gotten back to me yet.
What does everyone think??

I vote for (A) or (C). It just depends on who's already planning on coming and if changing the date will inconvenience them and/or you! Ethan certainly isn't going to know that you're celebrating two weeks later ;) Yay fire trucks! (I would want to see the brand-spankin-new station myself.)
I vote A, unless you have no interest in seeing another fire station. This way, when the party is over, and the tour is over....everything will feel complete. It also seems like the most seamless way to go. But that's just my opinion. Wow, he is going to have such a great b-day!
C. Definitely. I think it would be cooler to do the one that is RIGHT by your house because it's the one he's going to be closest to.
Love!
I vote A. It will be fun for him, especially with his parents. That is all he will have to focus on and he will have more fun. Not to mention you already have vacation, and who knows when the new station will be ready to TOUR?
That makes me so sad they cut down the trees on Pioneer Pkwy!!!! That was such a beautiful little drive! So sad!
Ok, party time. My PERSONAL opinion. The fire station idea is WAAAAAAAAAAY too cool to not have in his party. Totally post pone, as long as you can handle it not being the day of his birthday. If that's too wierd to have it so far away, then don't. But I just think that would be THE COOLEST party. I mean, seriously, I would not forget that- and I'm a girl.
def. C..I mean Ethan is IN LOVE with fire trucks...and you've picked out some things already, just make it later in the month!
Luv ya
I vote A because it seems like you've already gone through the trouble of taking a day off of work, and letting all your guests know ... and if you do tour another fire station that day, you'll still get to tour the new one, and that's TWO tours, and hence twice the fun! Of course, I'm not going (being in CA and all) so maybe my vote doesn't count ... hahaha! :)
Ha! I don't think we're much help. :)
Ok, just for a little clarity... I haven't actually sent out any invitations yet because I was waiting to get the tour date (do I sound like a rock star or what?!) of the fire station finalized. And the invites are really just for fun because it's pretty much just going to be family coming.
Also, the main reason I have the day off work is to have an 'Ethan and Mommy' day together for his birthday (he also has his 2-year check-up that day), not because of the party.
Does that change anyone's answers??
so A would be the easiest...but C would be cooler....Matt thinks the same...
I vote for A unless you can change your day off date and due the party later. I had a really good time visiting with you Tuesday! Sorry Ben was such a bully. Hopefully next time we get together he'll be more adapted to being around other kids, the stinker. Hope he didn't leave any bruises and if he did totally send me the doctor's bill. (May as well throw it in with the rest we've been collecting.) And I hope he didn't trash Ethan's room too much. I'm so embarressed, I never wanted to be the mom of the bully. He was having a pretty exciting week though and hadn't had my undivided attention for awhile plus he had missed his nap (always bad- I've learned my lesson). He really is a sweet boy most of the time.
Any way. I am so going to make those tarts, they were the yummiest thing I've had in a long time, loved them! And dinner was really good too. You've inspired me to buy more fresh herbs.
Hopefully I can make you guys dinner sometime soon.
I vote for keeping the party the same, and then doing the new station tour when it opens. If I am correct, do you live right on the corner of main and whatever that cross street to the station is? I wonder every time I drive by, and sean used to live right around the corner from there.
