Input please!

Ok.
So Ethan's birthday is a little less than 2 months away and I am already thinking about it.
Is this pathetic? Or just a control-freak mom getting a jump on the planning?
Don't answer that. We've already decided to keep things pretty small this year. Probably just family at our house. My dilema, though, is that I'd still like to decorate and have a theme at least for the cake. But what to pick for the theme?!?! There are so many choices!! Here are my theme ideas:
* Handy Manny - He loves the show and got a bunch of Handy Manny toys for Christmas that he already likes to play with.
* Cars/Trucks - Hands down, number one favorite toy.
* Firetruck - More specific than the previous option and I thought this might be fun since it may be his last birthday in this house and we live across the street from the fire station.
* Frogs - His Southworth animal nickname. Wouldn't a big, bright green frog on his cake be fun?!
* Sesame Street/Elmo - His other favorite show - especially the Elmo's World segment.

Alright faithful blog readers. Go forth and do what you do best: comment!! I'm also open to any other suggestions you have for what has been successful at a 2 year-old's birthday party.

Funny, but just writing it out, I'm finally leaning toward one idea - but I want your thoughts, too!!
Thanks for your help!
Over and out.

I'd do the one that he's most likely to outgrow. I wish that I had thought about that more when I was doing Matthew's previous birthdays. Thinking about Matthew's fifth birthday, I'm not sure what to do that I've not already done. Good thing I have almost a year to think about it.

Those all sound like fun cake ideas!

My friend did cupcakes for her little girl's birthday party and they were elmo...so cute and really easy if you have the right tip.

That's all the input I have...I'm not creative and will need lots of help myself when it's time for Easton's birthday.

I agree with Julie. I would do one that he might out grow. I think a frog sounds really cute too! Can't wait to see the pictures.

I vote firetrucks :) You could even get him a little hat to wear instead of a party hat :)

Can't wait to hear what you decide!

I thought firetruck sounded funnest too! and it has special meaning if you are moving away from the fir station... but all of them are super cute ideas! Have fun! (and don't stress too much...In the end, he's just gonna like the cake. :)

My initial reaction: Fire Trucks. It will have more meaning to him now than later because, like you said, you are living across the street from the station. Has he been over there? You might schedule a "tour" on his birthday and he can go and sit in the truck and blow the horn or something.

Is it redundant to say Firetruck?

Like everyone else, I vote for the firetruck idea, esp since you're so close to one. Can they give him a tour of the truck, or show him around the station, maybe? I love the idea of the firefighters helmet too! He'll love whatever you do! Can't wait to see how it turns out! Enjoy it!

I can see my opinion might not be popular but I could see how much he loves Hanny Manny at Christmas and he might not be around for ever! Hanny Manny that is! Elmo, trucks etc. will be and he will ALWAYS be a frog! I speak from experience of having a little girl OBSESSED with Barney a few years ago - oh stop groaning people - it was cute at the time - honest!

If you did the fire truck theme, maybe you could have it at the fire house or have a fire truck come. But my first thought was Handy Manny.

I vote fire truck. Maybe you could schedule a tour with the dept and they'll let him sound the siren? You could get plastic fire hats instead of party hats. That just sounds so fun especially since you might be moving away from the station soon.

My instinct is telling me go with the show characters, or what he loves best. If it's all the same- go with what's easiest. That's my motto. Unless you like challenges. They're all GREAT ideas, and whatever you pick will be super fun and awesome. Way to go MOM! I think about things in advance too, no worries.

I would go to a party store or other place where plates, cups and decorations are sold to see what theme has the cutest stuff. Plus if you bring Ethan it will give you an idea in seeing what he is interested in the most.

If you decide Handy Manny look at the Disney play house web site... they already have ptintable decorations for some of their tv shows.

Something tells me that you'd better go with your own gut since just about every answer has been given here. So what's the decision? 14 opinions should be enough to sway you. I wanna know!

Jackson also loves Handy Manny! :) I say firetrucks or frogs.... both would be pretty easy and super cute! Can't wait to see the pictures of the cake and decorations!

I'd say either handy Manny, Firetrucks or Frogs. No Elmo because every little kid is always obssebed with Elmo and it's nice to do somthing creative and diffrent!

So I'd be stuck too! My sister did a supper cute 2 year old birthday and put the cake in a big dumb truck with crumbled cookies on top. The kid LOVED it. I also think you should do something he will outgrow. Not only will it make future birthdays easier it really shows his personality and development at that point. Good luck!
