Buzzkill

Sean said I had to blog about this.
And take pictures.
Probably payback for the "What's that noise?" post when he broke Ethan's plate.
Gee. Thanks.
So what's the one word you don't want to hear while having your hair cut? "Oops!" "Whoops!" "Uh-oh!" and the like. Well, for the record, I did not actually say any of those words while cutting Ethan's hair on Sunday night. Though, apparently, maybe I should have.

Ethan's hair seems to grow crazy-fast (which is probably a good thing after Sunday's attack) and I feel like I just cut his hair. Of course, it doesn't help that I like to keep it "long" as in not all-over buzz cut. So I've been the only person to trim any of Ethan locks. See?? Sean won't even trim his fingernails, let alone his hair! A hair-cutting mishap was bound to happen sooner or later with a squirmy toddler as the client. Anyway. I've gotten pretty good at both the top and the sides (though the sides took quite a bit of practice) and now I've just been struggling with the back and resisting the urge to just cut it straight across and call it done. This does not look good. Trust me.
So Sunday night I was done with the top and the sides and was moving on to the back. Long story short (no pun intended) it ended up looking (unitentionally) like a bit of a hack job and I got a little too close in a couple sections. So I decided to try and even everything out with Sean's beard trimmer. That was helping, but it wasn't fully charged and quit before I was finished! Argh. Of course, my mom noticed the discrepencies in the length of the back of his hair right away when I dropped Ethan off Monday morning. Nothing like pointing out the obvious! Anyway. I got the trimmer all charged up and finished evening out the back Monday night. There's still a couple spots that are a little bare compared to the rest and the overall length of the back is much shorter than I would've like - sort of a reverse mullet. Short in the back and longer on top. But Ethan will survive. I will survive. And Sean will have a good laugh at our expense. Next time I'm taking him to a barber and watching very carefully so I can pick up some tips. I wonder if they'd let me video it?

Looks good in the front.

Sides are decent, too.

And here's the back. Please try to contain your laughter at my little boy's expense. It's not his fault his mother is not trained in the art of boys' hair (although he is the one who was squirmy)!
And remember, I evened it out a little more Monday night!

Oh no! At least he is a boy meaning nobody pays that much attention to their hair and they can be all dirty and crazy haired and still be cute! Plus, its better that the front looks better than the back!

That last post is pretty funny...... boys will be boys!

Thanks again for coming to the blessing and for bringing the yummy cookies and pasta- I've had it all week for lunch! Go ahead and steal away any pictures you'd like! We had a blast seeing you guys and I am glad the boys played pretty well, exhausted and all. :)

That is hilarious. I think we all as parents at one time or another will cut our kids hair badly. I cut Reagan's bang once and let's just say it wasn't pretty, and I stay away from the scissors now.

LOL! When he came here after his haircut I was like...um what happened to his hair?? LOL
Oh well...good thing he won't remember and it will grow out soon enough.

LOL....so funny! Hey, you're a serious stud for doing all his haircuts...PROPS! It really isn't that bad....it would be a schweet A-line cut for a girl.... : ) Not that he looks girly....he seriously doesn't....promise!
Thanks for sharing this one....loved it!
Is Sean truly paranoid about cutting Ethan's nails? Interesting. : )

when I cut Makyra's hair we turn on her favorite movie, sit her on a chair with lots of padding and then feed her fruit snacks. As awful as it sounds we just keep giving her them until I'm done.

I had never cut boy hair before I amrried Dan, then he wanted me to cut his,I tried, but for the first few times we ended up just buzz cutting it.

The front is great! It just takes practice. And hey, at least you didn't just slap a bowl on his head and have a go with the clippers!!

Now you can look forward to the day when Ethan takes the scissors to his own hair, haha! ;)

We can't even cut Elijah's hair without having to pin him down. Whenever we try to just give him a trim, we screw it up because Elijah is thrashing and trying to get away from us. We always just buzz it because we can't do it any other way. Our famlies hate it when we cut his hair, but there is no other way to do it without sedating him!!!!

Two people said what I was going to say: 1)Set him down in front of a video that he's mesmerized with and 2) Just wait til he cuts his own hair!

I didn't think it looked THAT bad so maybe it's worse in person. He wiggles enough that perhaps no one will notice. Luckily you said it grows fast, right?

LOL, too funny. Oh well, it isn't horrible. At least you did it and not someone you paid to cut his hair. It will be fine in a few days. Don't feel bad. Boys like crazy hair cuts, right?!?
