It took a few moments for the pain to really kick in and when it did it HURT! Holy moly. Cold rag was pointless. That baby was warmed up again in a matter of seconds! Eventually I ended up in the recliner with my feet up, cold rag on foot and then an ice pack. Every time I adjusted the rag, it was ice cold everywhere but the section directly over the burn.... even 2 HOURS after the fact. I took 3 ibuprofen and it was still a couple hours before the throbbing really stopped.
This was my foot a couple hours after the initial burst of steam. If you look closely, you can make out a little square in the middle of the splattering of 1st degree burn. The square came from the grid on the mop head where the steam was released. Not a pretty picture. My friend gave me a leaf? vine? of their aloe plant to use and that helped a lot the first night.
Five days later, this is where I'm at. The splattering is gone and I'm left with the square in the middle that has blistered a little. Lovely, I know. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I am not left with a pretty little square scar on my foot!!

Ick, I've been burning myself like crazy lately. I don't know what my deal is. I wanted to say THANKS for your post about your dinner/menu list. I DID IT and it's awesome. I posted about it and everyone loved it and is going to do it too! So thanks for you geniusness, you're making mother's lives easier everywhere!!!
Oh, owie! I detest burns. They are soooo painful. I'd have downed a couple more Ibuprofen after an hour--you are a braver woman than I! If you have a scar you will have a good story to go with it. :)
