Too late.
Apparently, to Ethan, our Christmas tree is decorated with tons of bright, shiny balls. And what do you do with a nice, bright and shiny ball? Well, throw it on the ground, of course! And that's exactly what Ethan did on Thursday night after we had finished decorating the tree. I was back in the kitchen and next thing I see Ethan take one step into the dining room and throw the 'ball' down to the floor. Sorry bud, those balls don't bounce. So we've repeatedly corrected him when he eyes all of the 'balls' on our Christmas tree. "Those aren't balls, Ethan, they're ornaments. NOT balls. Ornaments. NOT balls...." Our tree is decorated with the previously mentioned jewel-toned spherical ornaments (we bought a large set of standard size and small ones for our first Christmas tree) and then a variety of Hallmark and other random, festive ornaments. We've only lost 3 of the spherical ornaments now and ironically all 3 have been gold colored. Maybe the tree thinks they clash too much with the silver snowflakes. Who knows?
But anyway...
Christmas has come to our house!! Actually, we decorated the mantle and put out the Nativity
scene last Sunday, but I wanted to wait and include a picture of the tree - which we got on Monday, but did not finish decorating until Thursday.
scene last Sunday, but I wanted to wait and include a picture of the tree - which we got on Monday, but did not finish decorating until Thursday. It's still missing something, I think some sort of beaded garland, or ribbon or something to wrap around the tree, I just haven't found anything I like. I do like the addition of the long, curly silver ornaments, though. I forgot how limited my Christmas decorations really are - barely enough to do the mantle - so we filled in the space with some of our favorite Christmas books. I love Christmas books and I have made it a tradition to get a new one every year. I'm picky, though. They have to have a good, heart-warming story - usually some act of charity and kindness, really good illustrations and it always helps if the story makes me cry! My favorites are:
and last year's addition,
All three make me cry and the Christmas Dress one leaves me a blubbering mess!! I'm always on the look-out for a good Christmas book this time of the year. Does anyone have some good suggestions for next year's book(s)?? This year's is already on order and should be here (fingers crossed) before Christmas.

I think it's cute how Ethan throws a ornamant! Not cool for the Christmas tree, or you guys though.
But hey, I Finally commented on a post though!
It was cool to see your guy's house yestrday..I like it!
PS. I get to do your sticking stuffer's this year cause chrissy got to do it the First year1 my turn!!!
hopefully you have christmas ornaments left after christmas! :) Its funny how they are naturally attracted to things that are shiny and new! Gotta love kids!
Jennifer, you are so funny...and I think you're a really good writer too. The title alone of this blog was hilarious...and then how you called the ornaments "spherical" made me burst out in laughter. Ethan sounds like a lot of fun! And I'm not being sarcastic....at all!
I've never seen the "willow tree" nativity before....beautiful!
A new Christmas book every year is such a GREAT tradition! Good one. I wanna read that really sad one now....lol.....is that weird? I just know it will be so good!
Love your nativity, it's so pretty! And I feel the same way about my tree...it's totally missing something and I can't decide what! Yours looks great though.
Ok, I don't usually leave advice but with our dog and his gigantic tail along with two kids, I have opted to get shatter proof ornaments. I put the special non-shatter ones on the top so the kids and dog can't get to them. For my super special ornaments, like my first ornamnet from 1976, well it won't go on the tree until the kids are older. I just can't risk it. It's worked so far. Believe me, before I did this, many glass ornaments were went flying through the air and broke from one flick of Jakjak's tail. I have seen friends opt out on decorating the bottom part of the tree or put a gate around it. hey, whatever works.
For a book, Lynnie gave us one called Little Porcupine's Christmas. Illustrations by the same lady who did If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. I've read a lot of Christmas books to my students and Jonathan, but this one always leaves me crying, mostly because Jonathan is the porcupine and I think of him when I read the story. The book gives a nice message as well, I think I'll read it right now...bye.
I hear ya there on the whole ornaments aren't balls. Our tree is a little bare at the bottom for that very reason. AND, I have that same nativity set! I have to say it's probably my most prized possession. I just love it! Your tree and Christmas decorations are beautiful! We do the new Christmas book every year tradition too only we do children's books. (I think Bennett's attention span has rubbed off on me when it comes to books.) Right now Ben's favorite is The Snowman by Raymond Briggs.
Ok, I love willow tree statues and am sooo jealous that you have the nativity..... it's on my list for one day. Cute tree! You guys have lots of decorations for it already! Isn't decorating for the holidays the best?! It is definitely a lot harder with young kids though! What boy wouldn't want to throw a ball shaped ornament to test it's bouncing skills?! :)
One of my favorite books is the Gift of the Magi- classic and i think i cry every year like it is the first time reading it!
You guys are more than welcome to come visit anytime this weekend or whenever- we should be home from the hospital by Saturday early afternoon, if not sooner ( i have been having off and on contractions all day today and they definitely don't feel too good)
