I survived. Barely.

Late this morning, Sean, Tory and I went for a hike up Mt. Pisgah. I am not a hiking kind of a gal. Not that I don't like the outdoors. On the contrary, I love a good nature walk. I've just never been much of a hiker. Even when I was in really good shape and working out at the gym 4-6 days a week with a variety of cardio I was not much of a hiker. So last week when Tory came over and invited Sean to hike Mt. Pisgah this weekend I rolled my eyes and said in a scoff, "Pffft. Have fu-un." But then, the more I thought about it, the more I thought that I could really benefit from a good hike. We've been so busy the last couple weeks that I haven't made it to the gym much. So despite my rational thought warning against it, I all but begged to come along. Last night the arrangements were made. Tory's mom, Melanie, would watch Ethan while the rest of us went on the death walk...err... hike. We started at about 11am and by about half-way I was dying. Whose idea was this anyway?! Finally, after many stops along the way, we made it! All the way to the top. I had to take pictures to prove it.

View from the top.
"Whadja say, sweetie?"
We are here. Yep, right here.
Striking their manly poses. "Monster trucks. Big gulps. Hunting. Outdoor cooking."That there over yonder.
Me and the boys.

Going back down was much, much easier though my legs were getting kinda shaky towards the end. And after a total of 5 miles we were back in the car, A/C blasting on our way home, but only after a pitstop at 7-11 for some slurpees to replenish the lost fluids and combat the increasing temperature. And now? Now, I am sitting on the couch in front of the A/C, post shower, with freshly shaved legs and non-sweaty, clean shorts and a t-shirt. My legs are still hurting and I know I'll be sore tomorrow, but I'm glad I went. Just don't ask me to go again or I might just beg you to come along at the last minute.
Anyway. Just thought I'd let you know I survived. Barely.

Ha! I have TOTALLY been there with that shaky leg thing. Years ago I went to a hip hop class to find out the oldest girl there was 16!!!! I was in my 20's. Despite my embarrassment I stayed and 1/2 way thru when we'd do a move on the ground I suddenly couldn't get up anymore. And I remember shaking down the stairs and shaking while getting into my car and still shaking, shaking, shaking trying to sit on the toilet. I never knew that could happen before. It reminded me of that. Well GOOD JOB for doing a hard hike. I've never done Pisgah before. I meant to before we moved but it didn't happen.

You know, I am available quite often on Saturday mornings or evenings . . . and your little sweetie pie (Ethan) might request some time with one of his fave sitters. Ethan had to conquer a little hill of his own and really showed that play structure who was boss. I loved hanging out with him and if he happens to sing a song about a Ford . . . well, I taught him that one.

I knew the three of you would come home unscathed, but I have just one question. Where was my slurpee???

Good for you! Hiking is so much fun, maybe you'll learn to love it. Afterall, you live in the best state for such an activity!

I'm impressed, that's not an easy hike to do!

Death Walk. Love it!!!

I have never hiked Mt.Pisgah. (Emily used to go there a lot.) Thankfully the physical therapist told me that trudging up hills is not beneficial to my back. Gee Golly Darn!

Oh, and yeah... babysitters definitely deserve (really big) Slurpees. Oh my, I good go for a good Pepsi Slurpee right now. I may settle for the less-tasty Crystal Light version later. Dang! Now I'm craving!!!

I'm doing my darndest to convince you to buy an ice cream maker!! My theory is if I *have* to make absurd amounts of the stuff (ya know, for research purposes ;) and pack on the pounds then I will tempt everyone else to join me! lol. They really are so much fun. Maybe we'll have to give one away on the blog- hmmm...now there's an idea!

And wow, what a beautiful view from your hike. Gorgeous! Have a great time at GC (and I hope you dream about ice cream every night, hee hee ;)

Yay, good for you!

[it took me a long time to realize you guys were standing next to a metal topography map thing, not just a shiny tree stump! LOL]

Ah, the shaking jelly legs ... I love hiking, but I'm kind of out of shape. I hiked Half Dome in Yosemite for my 25th bday- we were SO unprepared! It took 16 hours and we could barely move the next day. I want to do Half Dome again one day, after proper training! here CSUN has a hiking program you can do through the Kinesiology dept. They start you off with mild hikes and over the course you gradually move up until you're ready for Half Dome!
