June Recap

Ay-yi-yi, where's does the time go?! Alright, let's do this thing....

* Date-night-movie-of-the-month: We got this recommendation from my co-worker. She gave me a full rundown of the movie and it sounded like something right up our alley. This month it was at the cheap theater which made this date night a bargain - always a good thing in my book! Anyway, we saw:
Not bad! Definitely a Leverage meets Italian Job/Ocean's 11 kind of a movie. A special ops team that gets set-up and must clear their name - and, of course, each team member has their specialty {computers, sniper, transportation, etc.}. I totally recommend it if you like a good action movie!

* BBQs Galore: Including two in one Saturday! Luckily, they were spaced out to where we had BBQ burgers for lunch at Molly's 1st birthday [daughter to a good friend from High School] and then BBQ ribs/brisket, etc. for an End-of-the-School-Year BBQ at Sean's co-worker's house. Later in the month we had our own combined Birthday BBQ [more on that still to come!] and also a kabob/salmon BBQ and game night with some friends in the ward. At that one I actually tried salmon for the first time {yeah, I still don't like fish} and then the adults [3 couples] played about 5 dozen hands of SCUM while all the kids [6, not including the teen] played together. Good times and good food!

* Plagued by Sickness: I think I was the only who lucked out not getting any of the crud. One Tuesday afternoon Ethan started acting very lethargic while we were in the grocery store. I thought he was just getting tired since it was past his naptime, but in the check-out line I noticed he felt a little warm. I took his temp when we got home... 102 degrees and climbing! He was absolutely burning up, so I was taking his temp every 15-20 minutes and each time it had gone up just a bit and I think it finally topped off hovering just below 104 degrees. Talk about scary! I called the doctor and talked with a nurse who basically said since he was showing no other symptoms [cough, sinus problems, throwing up, etc.] that there was no point to bring him in because they'd just give him Tylenol. Well, Ethan hates taking Tylenol, but we did finally get him to take some after much coaxing and convincing that it really would make him feel better. It was much, much later that night that his temp finally started going down. I went into work for only a 1/2 day that Wednesday and Ethan rested up at Grandma Julie's house. But wait, there's more!! Sean got to spend about 1/3 of the month sick and I think our recliner has permanent Sean bum-prints! He got sick about a week after Ethan, was feeling better enough to work outside and then have a major relapse just in time for Father's Day [yes, that post is still to come!]. He finally went in to the doctor and found out he had a nasty upper respiratory infection, requiring both antibiotics and a codeine cough suppressant [which took about 2 days to kick in].

* My Hair: Finally cut!! Finally colored!! By two different people!! I was getting desperate. I got Sheila [who's in my parents' ward in OR] to cut my hair one week while I was down for work and Vicki [who's in our new ward in WA] to color it a couple days later. SO HAPPY to have my summer blonde back. :)

* Weekend projects: We finally had some non-wet weekends and kept ourselves busy outside around the yard... actually, it was mainly just Sean doing the yard work, but I was at least outside! He has done 99% of the weeding and I chipped in that last 1%! I despise weeding. Anyway, over the course of a couple weekends, Sean managed to completely clear a huge section along the very back of our yard - it will be our garden spot for next year since all the rain delayed our prepping of the area for planting and tending to our own veggies. {I'm still a bit bitter about that!}

This was mid-way through.
You can see a little better with this picture how big the space was. We're talkin' about 6'x12-14'! And let me tell ya, the birds loved this freshly weeded plot - it was like a buffet of easy access to all the worms and bugs! We'd look out the window and see, like, 15 birds all fighting over the fresh grub. Yuck. We also started a compost pile, but we still need to get a bin made to keep it all together - I know there's got to be some how-to's online somewhere...
My project while Sean worked on all of that was emptying out the sandbox. We only had a temporary cover and that just wasn't cutting it. The sand was completely saturated to the point that the waterline was well above the sandline. So I laid out a couple tarps and shoveled the whole thing out {back-breaking work, let me tell ya!} so it could dry out in the sun.
Every couple hours or so we would rake through it to help it along.I'm not sure, but I think Ethan may have preferred the sand out of the box, rather than in. We were making all sorts of progress on drying the sand out.... 'til it rained again!! But it's all back in the box now, Ethan is loving it and I quietly mutter under my breath every day as I sweep it up throughout the house.
* Ethan got buzzed!:This is the Before, obviously. His hair was getting so long! Don't get me wrong, I like it a little long, but the over-the-ear stuff drives me crazy! Plus, summer + warm weather = sweaty little boy from running around outside or wet little boy from playing in sprinklers... so I thought a more wash-n-go style was in order. Oh, and I didn't really get an After picture because I was lucky enough just to finish the cut - it was a lot of hair and Ethan was pretty antsy by the end! You can see it pretty good in this picture, though, of Ethan chowing down on his favorite seasonal melon during lunch the next day.
* Successful outlet mall trip: Lizzy came up for the weekend after realizing she hadn't been up to visit since before Ethan's birthday. Unacceptable! Friday we hung out, she kept me company while we did a bunch of grocery shopping for Sean and I's birthday BBQ and that night we watched Valentine's Day [see my review here]. Saturday we readied the house and then I drove her down "meet my mom" at the outlet mall. The "meet my mom" part didn't work out, but we were successful in getting Lizzy her fabulous new basketball shoes at the Nike store!Meanwhile I scored this super-cute sweet deal of a raincoat for Ethan - less than 1/3 of the original cost from Osh Kosh! And you'd better believe it's gonna get a lot of use living in WA!
* Events already covered/still to come:
- Case dismissed against Sean for our car being side-swiped!
- Father's Day
- Sean's 30th Birthday [more to come, though...]
- Birthday BBQ
- Eclipse movie [also reviewed here]

* Random Pictures: Sorry to disappoint, but I don't really have any for this month! Besides, I think I already covered anything that had a random picture to go with it!

I love giving my kids Advil for fevers. it is really effective. Also if you end up doing a compost pile go by Starbucks and get some of their coffee grounds. They package all of them up for you and I love the smell of it in my compost because it smells so earthy. The coffee grounds are really good for the plants too.

Nice post...& yea, I don't like cleaning up sand that's gotten into the house either! Now you know why the turtle sand box became a turtle "wading pool." :)

You have a nice sized backyard. I thought you lived in a condo. Did you move? Condos around here sure don't have yards that size.
