Skate America 2010

Last Wednesday, Sean came home wondering if we had plans for Saturday - which we didn't - because he'd been given 6 FREE tickets to one of the sessions for Skate America 2010. Free? What? Figure skating? Did you say FREE? Sign me up! The tickets were for the ladies short program and ice dancing short dance. I called my mom up {she's always loved figure skating} and she and Lizzy decided to come up Friday night {which Ethan loved}. Our friend Vicki and her daughter, Hannah {who's in my class at church} also came along.

First up was the ladies short program.
Yeah, this is how close we were! Row G. Seven rows back from the ice. It was awesome! Of course, my camera battery was dying, so I had limited picture-taking opportunity.

We were all surprised at how much more sparkly the costumes were and just how cool it was in general to see the performances live! Even the ice dancing was cool. I've never been much of a fan of ice dancing, but I had a much greater appreciation for it after watching the performances. It was also pretty neat to see skaters I had just watched during the Olympics earlier this year.

It wasn't until after my camera battery had completely died and the show was over, that Vicki and I realized we had opposite camera problems. She had her camera with fresh batteries, but no memory card and I had a memory card but dead batteries! So we put my memory card in her camera and snapped a few after-the-fact pictures.
