October Oregon Visit

The last week of October, Ethan and I were able to go down and visit my family and some friends for a couple of days. In preparation, I baked up quite a few Halloween treats, thanks to my good friends at Our Best Bites {LOVE their recipes, easy-to-follow instructions and pictures of the whole process}!

I made two big batches of caramel corn {using this recipe}, baked it so it was crunchy and then drizzled it in milk and dark chocolate. Ethan helped me add some bright, Halloween sprinkles to the chocolate before it was set. I have to say, it's a pretty dang good {poor man's replacement} for Moose Munch {which runs about $8 for a 10oz. bag unless you can get it on sale}. Although, Harry & David makes theirs with a toffee popcorn, and it's still one of my faves treats. I also made a double batch of sugar cookies and decorated most with sprinkles, but a select 18 cookies were decorated with spiderwebs {using this icing recipe and tutorial} and I was quite pleased with how they turned out! My last baking endeavor before the drive down was pumpkin bread {using this recipe - which I triple so I get 3 loaves from one big can of pumpkin}. Of course, by the time I had all of this yumminess packaged up, we left much later than I had planned and didn't get to my parents' house until about 9pm.

On Thursday we...
* slept in and then snuggled with my mom, aka grandma Julie, while watching Regis & Kelly.
* got my hair chopped off!! It's above my shoulders now {lost a good 3-4 inches... maybe more} and actually looks super-cute curly. Usually when I cut it this short, the curls don't look so great.
* dropped off some goodies for my former co-workers - the ladies in the office were thrilled I stopped by instead of just letting my dad bring the treats in.
* visited grandma Mary and grandpa Ken and brought them a sampling of all the goodies. {Ethan loves playing with grandma's toy collection - which is cool, because a lot of it is the same stuff I played with as a kid!}
* had dinner w/ grandma Sandy and grandpa Chuck. Tried my first-ever acorn squash. I'm not really a big fan of squash, but it wasn't too bad {with the butter and brown sugar!}. We also had elk-meat steaks, baked potatoes and coleslaw.
* decided to stay one more day.
* stayed up and watched "The Whole Truth" {one of my new fave shows} with my mom.

I love Autumn in the Pacific Northwest!

On Friday we...
* slept in and snuggled with my mom again while watching the Halloween special of Regis & Kelly.
* made a quick trip to my friend Danae's house to drop off some day-late birthday goodies and cuddle her baby girl {which I hadn't seen since July!} and steal some of her yummy rolls {since I had yet to eat breakfast}.
* had our mutual friend Laura drop by Danae's house on her way to a dentist appointment so I could give her her baby shower gift. She is due any day!
* got me a drink and Ethan a Happy Meal at McDonald's with apple slices and milk. As usual, he ignored the cheeseburger.
* went to Valley River {mall} and made a beeline for the Duck shop. Fell in love with a sweatshirt I want for Christmas, bought Ethan a new Duck whistle and the three of us new duck shirts!* went back to my parents' house to pack up our stuff.
* took the long way home with a stop out to Lone Pine Farms. Lizzy came with us and my mom met us out there. Most of our pictures came from this visit to the farm that went relatively well... It was muddy from the previous day's rain storms, Ethan had only napped for a little while in the car that day {read: he was a bit on the cranky side!} and it was cold. We still managed to get some good shots, though.

LOVE pictures from around the farm. The pumpkins on the old truck with the trees in the background are my favorite. Such lucky timing - you can't plan shots like that.

At the farm we....
* fed the goats. This is always a favorite! I mean, how can you say "no" to a face like this?! {Love those ears!}A quarter buys you a handful of goat pellets which you can either feed them by hand...
Or put them in a cup attached to a pulley and send them up to dump in a bowl......though the pellets often don't make it to the bowl!

* played at the {muddy - yuck!} playground. Lizzy was an expert merry-go-round pusher. {I told Ethan to "hold on tight!!"}
* took some pictures by the hay.
* attempted to "re-create" this pumpkin patch picture from last year that I LOVE!!

{It's growing on me... and for how stubborn and cranky he was, a pretty decent attempt!}

* got some pictures of the girls.

Mom w/ her youngest and oldest girls.

Love this picture of Lizzy and I! :)

* bought some kettle corn and ate some fresh, local ice cream! Ethan went with strawberry and I had a scoop of mountain blackberry revel {a fave} and a scoop of caramel apple. {I'm usually only a one scoop gal, but I couldn't pass up trying the caramel apple. It did not disappoint!}

* changed Ethan into jammies, put muddy jeans and boots in the back, cranked the heat in the car and headed for home!
